Boots have asked us to share the following information in relation to the NHS Hypertension case finding service that is part of the community pharmacy contractual framework for England.
Hypertension is one of the biggest risk factors that can increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and is one of the top five risk factors for all premature death and disability in England. An estimated 5.5 million people have undiagnosed hypertension across the country.
NHS England has published new national ambitions for the detection and management of the high-risk conditions. The ambition for hypertension is that 80% of the expected number of people with high blood pressure are detected by 2029, and that 80% of the population diagnosed with hypertension are treated to target.
A large proportion of Boots pharmacies in England are set up to deliver this service. To complete the ABPM element of the service, Boots branches are using the Microlife WatchBP device – information on how to use can be found in the video below.
