The HSE has revised its mandatory training requirements for agency nurses and midwives. All agency nurses must complete statutory mandatory education and training, along with any additional training specified by HSE while working for a HSE approved provider. A revised list of mandatory training courses has now been issued to agencies and will be put in motion immediately.
The updated requirements include additional courses, the majority of which are available free of charge on HSELand. Importantly, most of these courses do not have an expiry date—meaning that once completed, they will remain valid indefinitely.
From an operational standpoint, agency nurses cannot be proposed for placement unless they have completed all necessary pre-placement clearances and mandatory training.
